As a leader it is your responsibility to take your group, team, division and or company forward, empowering everyone to create together more than they could alone.
Your role is to see the vision and articulate the mission sharing both of them thus ensuring that everyone knows where you are going and how they can help you get there.
In order for everyone to help you it’s important to ensure that you have the right individual in the right role. As their strengths (their gifts, talents) expand and their expertise grows you want to ensure that their opportunities to grow are increased.
When it becomes clear that someone is no longer a fit, either because they have grown beyond you, or you have grown beyond them the best thing you can do for the both of you is to support them in their transition. That is to help them find a new role within your organization or someplace else.
In summary you are the captain of your ship, studying the horizon to ensure you are going in the right direction and to see what’s coming up. You need to know who you have on your team. You want to have the best team and so you ensure they have what they need to do their job. If they are not willing or capable a new person is found. It’s too dangerous to have the wrong person doing the job.
