“I can’t delegate.”  “No one can do as good a job as I can.” “It will take me too long to explain what I need.” On and on. We all have our reasons for not delegating.

Typically, I see two basic reasons behind the excuses for not delegating. One is that you’re not clear yourself what you want. Not just how to do it but what your ultimate need is. Maybe you haven’t been able to take the time needed get a clear idea of what you want. Saying “No one can do it as good as I can,” is a great cover up for “I really don’t know what I want.”

The other reason can be that you’re afraid that if you delegate and the other person does a better job then “what do they need me for?” If that’s a fear, the best antidote is to keep your plate filled with challenging growth oriented tasks, ensuring you have the time you need to think and contemplate and then delegate or get rid of everything else. If it must be done delegate it, if it doesn’t really need to be done stop doing it.
