Do you want an easy way to improve morale and productivity in your organization, go walking!
Walk around and talk to your employees. I know it sounds to simple, think about how you feel when someone makes a point of asking you how you are doing.
As you walk around If you don’t remember someone’s name, ask for it and then repeat it at least twice more in the conversation. We all like to hear our names, it makes us feel important.
Then ask them a question or two about what they are working on and how it’s going, ask about their family, if you know something about them that’s even better, make sure you mention it, let them know you care.
Keep some index cards handy, write down a couple of notes. You know where I am going – this is Networking 101. It just so happens to be Company Networking 101. So then what do you do when you get back to your office? You send a note to their home address, and guess what happens then? Soon you’ll start seeing the notes pinned up in peoples cubes etc. Once caveat don’t send these notes on business cards, instead get a card that represents you and your vision and use them. Try and do 3-5 a week, if you have folks in remote offices make sure you also visit them. Depending on how large your organization meeting 3-5 a week will keep you in contact with 150-250. If you have a larger organization maybe you will have to do more or divide and conquer with your leadership team. You’ll never know what you’ll learn or how your business will grow until you try it.
