Last week I was interviewing the CEO of a small marketing company about leadership.  She and her partner currently have 1 other employee and a couple of contractors who work for them.   I asked her how she learned to be a leader.  Her response was that she was always a leader even as a pre-schooler she was leading the bigger kids in the neighborhood, and in high school and college she was always starting something.

She said the most important thing she remembers learning is that you can get others to do things to help you when you are aware of what motivates them and look at it from their perspective, from WIFM (remember this – What’s In it For Me.) When you are able to share with them how they are going to benefit from what you are asking them to do, they will follow you and help you create what you are trying to create.

So think about WIFM, make sure you are looking at it from their view point not your view point.
