I just got back from a week at the beach.  What a great time, reading, lying on the beach, playing in water, walking on the board walk, ice cream and crabs.

It was great to do nothing work related, I made a conscious decision to not think about work, to unplug and let my mind have a break.

As I came back I realized I had to do a bit of work this evening to get ready for my first day back because I did a vacation no no.  I scheduled two out of the office meetings.  This is not the way to come back off vacation!    I know I should block off the first day back for two reasons.  One, because I wasn’t dealing with emails there were some things I needed to take care of.  But most important, even though I wasn’t consciously thinking about work while I was on vacation, my subconscious was and I need time to process those ideas and jot them down while they are still fairly fresh.

I hope you’ve enjoyed your vacation or time away from the office and that when you get back you give yourself sometime to process the ideas your subconscious has been working on for you.  You never know what great ideas will pop up.
