Can it be this simple? How can I pick just one thing to focus on? What do you think might happen if everyone committed to and focused on accomplishing just one big thing this quarter or this year?
Think about it, what one thing would propel your company forward if you focused on it and got it done. Not just made some progress towards it but really got clear about it and solved it. Is it a customer service or a customer lack of satisfaction issue? Is there a new technology or new process that if everyone was committed to doing their part to ensure its successful accomplishment that would turn the tides? I realize it can be a real challenge to choose just one thing from the many things you need to do, but how often have you tried to do all of them and accomplished none?
Pick one, maybe you’ll find out as you begin focusing on it that it’s not the right one. Just the activity of choosing one and taking committed steps forward is going to cause change to happen. The important thing to do is to make a commitment and begin to move forward. If you realize it was not the right thing to be focused on make a conscious decision to stop doing this and to do something else.
Think about what your company and team might accomplish in six months, a year, two years if you commit to accomplishing ONE THING at a time!
One very important key to this is to communicate often and clearly.
