As the leader do you trust your leadership team?  When there is a high level of trust among members of a team, the team is able to move faster and go farther.  When you trust someone you are more willing to go out on a limb in what you say and in what you do.  It’s this willingness to risk more with someone you trust that allows your organization to start to take those leaps in business that will move you forward.

Building trust among team members is not just about doing team building exercises.  You know those exercises, the one where you stand with your back to another person and fall into their arms, “trusting” that they are going to catch you.  Of course a level of trust is created by doing those exercises.  The level of trust you want especially among your leadership team is the type of trust that is built when people share their hearts and open themselves up to being vulnerable.  When you have that level of trust then things will really move.

How do you build this level of trust?  Fortunately it’s fairly easy.  When you have your leadership team together you ask each person to share something that happened to them, either an accomplishment that they are very proud of or something that they did that they are not very proud of.  As the CEO, President or Owner it’s your responsibility to go first.

Go ahead, share, open up and see what happens to the level of trust and commitment among your leadership team.
