001You’ve been in business for a couple of years now, and maybe you’re tired, you’re working too hard and worst of all maybe you’ve forgotten why you’re doing this.  It’s beginning to seem like the same old treadmill – Get up-go to work – work – come home – repeat.  This wasn’t why you started your business!

Don’t despair, take some time, a day or a weekend and pull out that original business plan and look at it.  I’m betting it doesn’t have a vision and mission as a part of it, especially a vision.  The mission is often covered in the What Product or Services Do You Offer section.  Although even that is typically not deep enough to lead you to the answers you need.

Your vision is the picture of what you want to create.  It needs to be big enough to inspire you and such that you can’t do it alone.   It also needs to answer a why and a deep craving within you that just can’t be satisfied any other way.

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What do I want to create?
  2. Why do I have to do this?
  3. How will the world be a better place because of this?
  4. Why am I the one to do this?

As you go through this exercise you might have to do it a number of times.  You’re not looking for the correct answer, you’re looking for the answer that inspires you.

If you’re not feeling inspired, you’re just creating a job for yourself.  Creating a business based on your vision is about creating a legacy.
