Take a month off…. Are you kidding!?
Whenever I ask an entrepreneur or a leader if they could take a month off they react as if they are having a heart attack.
We have allowed ourselves to create a delusion and an experience in which we think we are the only one who can do what needs to be done.
There are a number of very important reasons for taking time off.
- We need time to relax and rejuvenate. Even as physical and intellectual growth in a child occurs when they are asleep, intellectual growth in adults requires rest.
- Creativity requires space and time, both of which are in short supply in our daily lives.
- The only way you truly know that you have a sustainable organization is based on what happens when you are not there.
If you want your business to grow, give yourself the gift of time away and see what happens when you come back. You’ll come back with new ideas; your staff will have new ideas due to the different way they’ll think about things while you’re gone. And then based on what happens while you’re gone you’ll know what areas need to be shored up and improved as you look to create a legacy.
If you’re afraid to take a month off, now is a good time to look at why and what needs to be done so that next year you can take a month off.
