205Is this true for your leadership team?  Do you really work well together or are you just faking it?  What happens when you leave your meetings?  It’s what happens after the meeting that can be a strong indicator of how well your team works together.

I’ve led teams that worked great together, and for me one of the key indicators was that once everyone left the meeting forward motion was a given.  Everyone was clear about their role in accomplishing the goals of the team, and if they weren’t clear they felt safe in asking for help in gaining clarity.

I’ve also led teams, if you can call it leading, where there was a quiet dissension.  During the meeting everyone seemed to be on the same page, yet once they left, things didn’t get done that needed to be done and no one felt comfortable asking for help.

Then of course there are those teams where it’s clear no one is working well together.  Sometimes it feels as if people are being contentious just to be contentious.  The advantage with this is that at least you know there is a problem because it’s right in your face.

To really know how well your leadership team is working together you need to look at the results of the team, not just what goes on in meetings.  A team that is working well together is one that is moving towards the same goal.  While they may have differences of opinions on how to get there, once the decision is made they will do what is required from them to help move forward.

Look at your leadership team and look at the results.  Results are a great indicator as to how well your team is working together.
