553Last week I was stuck for a couple of days.  I just wasn’t sure what I should be doing.  OK. maybe there was a little bit of overwhelm in there also.  Sometimes we’re stuck because we don’t know what the next step is.  While sometimes we’re stuck because we have too many things to do and we don’t know what to focus on.  That’s usually when overwhelm comes into play, when there is just too much to do.  This time I was just stuck, I didn’t know what the next steps were.

When I’m stuck I tend to do a couple of things.  First, I’ll try and pretend that I’m not stuck. Nope, usually doesn’t work too well.  As Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.”  So don’t expect to get unstuck from the same place that got you stuck.

Pretending I’m not stuck is pretty much like sticking my head in the sand, again not real productive.  Something else I’ll do is start an unrelated activity, it’s even better if it’s something that will keep me really busy.  Or even better, can I do something for someone else, anything to keep me from focusing on what I need to be doing.

So what did I do to get unstuck? This morning I did what I should have done when I realized I was stuck. I met with my Master Mind partner and shared where I was stuck and within a short time I had some new ideas and action steps to get me moving.  I’ve found that when I take the time to share that I’m stuck with someone else, a couple of things happen.  First, the act of sharing with them, actually articulating my dilemma with someone else, helps clear the fog in my mind, which sometimes in itself gets me unstuck.  Second, when they share their thoughts and ideas with me new ideas often bubble forth in my mind, thereby unsticking me.

If you are stuck, don’t let yourself stay stuck, find some techniques that work for you and use them.  Even the best techniques don’t work if you don’t use them.  Feel free to share how you get unstuck as the more techniques we have the faster we can get unstuck.
