Last week I wrote about Planning and the importance of reviewing what you did this last year. Once you’ve done that the next step is to look at where you want to be at the end of the year.
Here are some questions to think about and answer. These are just some to start with.
- How busy do you want to be?
- Based on your review of last year, what do you want to improve?
- What new programs, services or products do you want to offer?
- What can you do to increase client retention or sales per client?
- If you have employees what can you do to increase their engagement and productivity?
- If you are a solo business what can you outsource to increase your productivity?
- What can you do to increase your visibility in the market place?
- What systems can you put in place to increase your productivity?
After you have answered these questions see if they lead you to any other questions. Once you have finished answering all these questions review them again and decide what your focus for next year will be. Depending on the size of your organization and the budget you have you’ll want to limit your focus. Two to four areas of focus are generally sufficient. I generally recommend one per quarter, that way if they stretch beyond the quarter your not stretched thin trying to accomplish them while maintaining focus on your business.
Next week is Christmas Eve, so we’ll continue this series the following week, just in time for the new year.
