039First you dreamt your vision, next you articulated it and as you articulated it you created your brand, that representation of who you are.  It begins with the words that reflect who you are and then it also becomes the visible representation of those words.  More importantly, your brand is really who others think you are.

Just as important to declaring your brand is to live up to your brand.  Does Zappos live up to its brand? What is Zappos brand?  It started as an online store to buy shoes and now you can also buy clothes from them, but is that their brand.  No their brand is exceptionally outrageously fantastic customer service.  Even people who don’t buy from Zappos know what their brand is.

What’s your brand and are you living up to it?  First you have to know what your brand is.  Is your messaging clear and consistent? Then the best way to find out if you’re living up to your brand is to ask potential clients who didn’t buy from you, or long term clients who’ve changed vendors.  Ask them why they didn’t buy from you, and what you need to change for them to buy from you. Also look for the inconsistencies in what you say and what you do, remember what you do is more important than what you say.

A strong, consistent brand is an important key to growing your business.
