What are you focused on? Are you focused on the right things that will help you finish the year with a bang or have you gotten sidetracked and you need to refocus? When you have clarity of purpose and vision you’ll know what to focus on.
As a leader it’s your responsibility to ensure that everyone knows what they are supposed to focus on. To do this you need to be clear where you are going and you must share it with your employees. As you plan what to do your clarity is your beacon to determine if what you’re doing is taking you close to your goal or further away.
It’s so much easier to know what to focus on when you know where you are trying to go. In addition you want to focus on those actions and activities make the best use of your time. Yes we all have times when we have to do something that we don’t like doing or maybe that we’re not that good at. What you want to do is reduce the amount of time you spend doing them.
The more you focus on those actions and activities that will take you closer to your vision and those that you enjoy doing and your good at that faster and easier you’ll reach your goal. And when this becomes how you do your business, everyone focused on what takes them closer to their goal which is related to the company’s goal and focused on doing what makes the right use of their talents the more productive your whole business will be.

As soon as I read the title of this blog I knew I would love it! You provide us all with a reminder that is fully supported by years of successful businesses…. Keep your eye on the prize and focus on those things that directly contribute to your goals and overall success! Everything else is a shiny bubble that is preventing you from achieving your greatest power!
Very true Jane! I find that when we get busy, we tend to say we want to be focused but our actions don’t show it…it’s that whole bright shiny object phenomenon. However, as leaders, we need to be particularly conscious of demonstrating focus in our own daily actions as well as setting the big picture for our team. Business owners defeat this focus message when they say, “Do what I say [get focused], don’t do what I do.” Thanks for this article! Janet
So true, Jane. To use a very traditional metaphor, as a leader, you have to be looking at the forest and not the trees. Too, you have to know WHICH forest you want to be in!!! Living without that vision simply creates chaos…..thanks for the reminder!
