Spring is finally here, and just as farmers sow the seeds of what they expect to harvest in the Fall, we as entrepreneurs and business owners need to do the same thing.
What seeds are you planting and how are you planting them? It’s important to know what you want to harvest and how you want to plant those seeds. The work you do now will create what you harvest in 90 days. What is it that you want to see in 90 days? The answer to this will drive the activities you do during these next 90 days. Having a clear picture of what you want to see in the near term makes it much easier to remain focused on the right activities.
Create a vision for yourself that you can easily keep in mind, and can share with those who are going to help you reach it. Do you want to increase your social media presence? Maybe you want to do more speaking (or start speaking.) Like most entrepreneurs, you want to have more clients or more work from existing clients. Whatever it is that you desire, create a clear, written picture that you can easily share with someone. This will also allow you to know that you’ve accomplished it, made great strides to achieving it or learned something through not accomplishing it.
Next create a plan that tells you what you need to do to see your vision come to fruition. This plan can be as simple as a list of the tasks you need to do and when you need to have them done. Planning is important for a couple of reasons: one it helps you create a repeatable process and more important, makes you more efficient. Also every hour you spend planning, doubles your effectiveness.
How will you know if you’re on track? Include in your plan the results that you’re looking for and what you will do to achieve them. For example if you want to have more speaking engagements, what do you need to do and how many do you need? These are the Metrics that you include in your plan to track. Don’t try and track too many or you’ll quit and have nothing. Instead pick 2 or 3.
Finally, having a documented plan makes doing it the second time easier.
Once you’ve created your plan it’s time to work the plan. This means executing. As you work your plan it’s important to pay attention to what works and what doesn’t work. At least once a week, do a status check to determine if you are you on track according to the metrics in your plan If not, why?
At the end of the 90 days, take some time and review what you accomplished. What went well and what got in the way?
Follow these basic ideas of sowing and everything you do for your business will be a success!

Jane, sowing seeds of success with 3 simple steps – does accelerate your success. Thanks for sharing!
I always love these two quotes: “Plan your work, and work your plan”, and “Trust the process…” – so many people jump into action without a plan and get half-way there just to quit because of breakdowns. Great ideas here.
Great strategy, Jane! It really made me see that so often I forget to do that “check-in” with my plan to make sure I am on track. Thanks!! 🙂
I could not agree more, Jane. There’s something so powerful about 90 day plans. I go through a deliberate planning process with my mastermind group, where we create 90 day plans with specific projects and goals. Those have helped keep me on track and making progress week after week.
